Chemistry's Right, Timing's a Little Off

Y.F.F. - Detroit
CIF Showcase

If you want to see a group with good chemistry, check out Y.F.F. The members of the troupe had an instinctive knack for the direction of a scene and the appropriate status level for their characters. The dialogue of the group flowed easily and the troupe remained committed to their choices.

The show began with the suggestion of "underwear" and the first scene, set in a sweatshop, established the tone for the evening. The audience was involved immediately as the blizzard of questions between the foreman and the employee was Mamet-esque in nature. The give-and-take was sharp and propelled the scene forward.

An area that Y.F.F. could tighten was their transitions. The first ten seconds of every scene had a brief moment of pause that left a gap between the scene that had just ended and the scene just beginning. The distraction was only slight; however, because the scene work was so crisp.

Y.F.F. created appealing scenes with established conflicts and likable characters. The show gained momentum and the group's choices became stronger throughout the course of their set. Their best work came towards the end of their show and the audience was left to wonder just how high the peak might be for this troupe. Y.F.F. has the right idea because now we'll have to come back and see them to find out.
