"Guinness
Sucks!" Cries Austin's Well Hung Jury
Austin, April 6, 2001 - Jeremy Lamb had an idea. Create the longest continuous improvised narrative, in the heat of Texas in August, get a world's record and garner some well-earned publicity for his troupe, Well Hung Jury. Problem is, Guinness doesn't keep records for improvisation. Mr. Lamb thinks it's because Guinness doesn't consider improv a legitimate art form.

If accepted by Guinness, it would have also edged out the current holder of longest theatrical performance, the Non-stop Connolly Show, performed in Dublin, Ireland in 1975 clocking in at 26 hours 30 minutes, as well as establishing the new category in improvisation. According to Mr. Lamb, the Guinness people insisted that the piece must be scripted. However, a visit to the Guinness website, at www.guinnessworldrecords.com, shows no such rules posted. (Improv Review was unable to contact a Guinness spokesperson for comment before deadline, we will update this article if and when we do.)
So Well Hung Jury is going to attempt to break a different record, that of shortest play in world drama held by Samuel Beckett's Breath, with their own For the Love of You, Mother Dear, to be staged on April 13th in Austin before their regular improv show (see listing here). The entire script and cast are shown below. Mr. Lamb may have his work cut out for him, there are no rules posted for this category, either.
