Who: The
Free Associates
What: BS
- The Free Associates Theatre Company announces the return of
BS creator and original director Mark Gagné to direct the
eighth year of its long-running hit BS. BS is the affectionately
abridged appellation for Benevolent Saints Hospital, and is an
unscripted parody of the NBC medical drama 'ER.' As NBC has slowly
killed off Dr. Mark Green (actor Anthony Edwards), so will BS
spend the month of July offing his doppelganger, Dr. Matt Breen,
in a 'very special disease of the week'-style format. Dr. Breen
will have encounters with people from his past who affected him,
including his ex-wife Judy (Jenn on 'ER'), his daughter Becky
(Rachel on 'ER'), and Nurse Laurel Carroway (Nurse Hathaway on
'ER'), as he faces mortality of his terminal canker sore.
Improvanov:
Anton Chekhov Unscripted. Having taken on American playwrights
from Tennessee Williams and Eugene O'Neill to David Mamet and
English writers such as Shakespeare and the Brontë sisters,
TFATC turn their attention eastward to Russia, circa 1890, to
send-up Chekhov, a writer whose work influenced Williams and countless
others. The fading aristocracy, unrequited love, boredom and isolation
of country life and the desire to work, work, work are perfect
fodder for parody in the fine tradition of "Cast on a Hot
Tin Roof", "Chancing at Lunacy" and "Blithering
Heights."
