Improv Til Dawn

Reviewed by Jeff Catanese and William McEvoy (see initials)

Improv Review would like to apologize to the many groups that performed at Improv ‘til Dawn that we were not able to see.  We tried to catch as much as we could, but eventually we had to sleep.  Here are some snapshot reviews of the troupes we did see.

Double Stuff (Chicago) - Was Beer Goggles but they change their name.  Tried to do a longform using shortform games.  A for effort, C+ for execution.  They weren’t able to tie the games together in a coherent or interesting storyline. - WM

Exit 16 (Kansas City) - We have seen the future of improv, and it is Exit 16.  This high school was poised, did smart scenes and avoided bathroom humor better than most bar-prov troupes. - WM

Happy Gas Improv (Bowling Green, KY) – Is it post-modern improv with redneck sensibilities?  No, it’s just a lot of noise. - JC

Kihkercast Project (New York) - Workmanlike, funny but sometimes disjointed - WM

Noble Fool (Chicago) - More mature actors and one member with a head full of obscure presidential facts, very clever - WM

Plain Cake Donuts (Chicago) - They gave the audience donuts.  Really smart work.  Good character work, listening and responding to offers.  Very good at varying energy intensity effectively.- WM

WIT (Washington, D.C.) – You seem to love improv, but you are afraid of commitment.  Next time try it without the gum in your mouth. - JC
