Sunshine Express Goes for the Record Long Day's Journey Into Night . . . Back Into Day . . . And Back Again Into Night will feature The Sunshine Express improvising twenty-eight hours of plays, musicals, one-man shows, rock operas, freestyle rap sessions, dance contests and other competitive events, as well as standard improvisational structures. The material will range from provocative and shocking "adults-only" content in the late hours, to a full-blown "fun for the whole family" children's show on Saturday morning. All material will be improvised on the spot. "Mostly, we are going to try to sleep the day of the show, stay awake as long as we can, and then rest in short shifts when it comes to that." said troupe member Gabe McKinney. "With just four of us, this will be tough. We are preparing now by exercising to get our endurance up, as well as weaning ourselves from caffeine. This will enable the caffeine to have more of an affect when we drink coffee, etc., during the show. Other than caffeine and nicotine, however, we plan to perform drug-free." Read about it here.

William McEvoy gets into the nuts and bolts of creating an effective website. "Your website is a business communication tool, not an art project." he extols his readers. Reviews Improv Jam, Red Bank, NJ I've learned to worry when I see a rainbow-colored clown wig on a rack near the stage before an improv show. Such a rack of costumes and hats often means we're in for a "wack-wack-wacky!!!" show. I equally worry when I see this rack along with a pre-drinking-age crowd, because that often means not only "wack-wack-wacky!!!," but filled with lots of fart jokes and bending over. I was therefore very happily surprised by Improv Jam in Red Bank, New Jersey, and their smart, if somewhat uneven, show. Read the full review. Velvet Elvises, Minneapolis, MN When the doors close and the lights dimmed and only thirteen people are in a theater that can hold ninety, one begins to wonder where the other seventy-seven people went. In the music world Elvis was the King, certainly this collection of "velvet" Elvises (Elvii?!) could attract more fans? The show opened with hosts Marcus Muggli and Mark Mahon explaining their troupe and mentioning their special guests Nels and Joel. There was a sense of confusion on stage in the introduction, the gathering of suggestions, and the scenes themselves. Read the full review.
